Setting up Set top box for surround sound

Now a days all the HD set-top boxes for TV are coming with optical or co-axial digital output.
These are some of the providers in India: Airtel,Tata Sky, Videocon,Dish TV,Relaiance, Doordarshan.
You may want to connect this to your home theater so that you may experience 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound or stereo with high quality.

To play this in speakers basically you need a Dolby/DTS decoder and amplifier.

Here are some of the options :

Option 1: High quality AV receiver, Budget Rs.26,000/- and above


Buy an AV receiver with speakers. You can connect the optic or co-axial output to your AV receiver which decodes the digital output and amplifies and plays through speakers.

Option 2: Economic Audio Decoder with Multimedia speaker, Budget Rs.7000/- and above

You can buy a less expensive audio decoder and 5.1 multimedia speaker with built in amplifier.
Connect your TV's optical/coaxial output to audio decoder which decodes Dolby/DTS signal and gives analog 5.1 or 7.1 output which you can connect to multimedia speaker.
